About the Customer:
Land Services SA (LSSA) was appointed in October 2017 as the exclusive service provider to the South Australian Government for a range of transactional land services and property valuation services previously delivered through the Lands Titles Office and State Valuation Office.
In April 2020, despite being in the midst of a global pandemic, LSSA completed the migration of the South Australian Integrated Land Information System (SAILIS) and Electronic Plan Lodgement (EPL) applications to AWS, supported by several AWS partners, including Relational Data Systems (RDS). Then in December 2022, LSSA engaged RDS, in partnership with NextGen, as an AWS reseller. LSSA are enjoying a number of benefits associated with this move and recently extended the contract in December 2023 for a further 12 months.
Customer Challenge:
A key challenge for any client with services in the cloud is managing ongoing cost and staying within IT budgets, and LSSA is no different. LSSA was also looking to simplify billing and vendor management as this was a significant overhead on the IT and Finance teams. LSSA was also seeking additional value-added services such as consulting, architecture review and ongoing cost optimisations initiatives.
Partner Solution:
The resell agreement between LSSA and RDS immediately delivered cost savings via the resale discount available across LSSA’s AWS environment. RDS was able to consolidate and simplify LSSA AWS billing and removed the need for LSSA staff to verify and review detailed AWS billing. RDS also provided LSSA with access to CloudCheckr, a leading enterprise cloud management platform enabling full cost visibility over their AWS environments.
LSSA now receive customised service usage reports, cost and security recommendations based on trends as well as concise and easy to understand billing reports. RDS are constantly looking at opportunities to optimise LSSA expenses with monthly cost optimisation reviews and part of our Governance meeting cadence.
LSSA also enjoy several value-add services from RDS, augmented by NextGen, including guidance and advice on AWS best practice architectures, choosing the right AWS services and updates on new AWS services deemed appropriate and of potential interest.
Results and Benefits:
Entering an AWS resell agreement with RDS has delivered LSSA a range of financial, operational, and strategic benefits, making it an attractive solution to leverage AWS services effectively.
LSSA has made significant savings in the first 12 months of the agreement from a combination of the fixed percentage discount, application of reserved instances, savings plans, and infrastructure reviews undertaken by RDS. This is a potent combination of services, all aimed at reducing LSSA’s overall AWS spend whilst maintaining a secure, robust, and high-performance environment.
LSSA IT and Finance teams appreciate the reduced time to review and approve AWS billing and the savings are always welcomed by teams working on new solutions, spinning up development and test environments as they build new products and services.
RDS continues to focus on innovation and ensuring LSSA is following industry best practices. By taking this approach, LSSA will continue to receive lower AWS costs and value-added services from RDS.
